A396 Road Closure: Details from Devon County Council
Please note we need to close the A396 at Riversmeet Cottage (EX16 9EA) for two weeks from 22/06/2020 in order to carry out urgent repair works to a failed retaining wall. We will then reduce the traffic management to two-way traffic lights for one week to complete the retaining wall. Please note our contractors will do everything they can to reduce the closure period.
The failed retaining wall supports the A396, we have currently installed two-way traffic lights on site to prevent any risk to the public. We are treating this scheme as urgent as the A396 is an extremely busy road and it also serves as the diversion route for the A361. For these reasons we have also been advised that we can not leave the temporary traffic lights on site for an extended period as it will cause prolonged disruption and expense to the public.
We require a road closure as we will be excavating a large section of the verge/road in order to install the new retaining wall. This means we need to remove all traffic loading from the highway to prevent the risk of the excavated bank collapsing. We also need to ensure the safety of our contractors whilst they are working at the lower levels of the site.
If you have any questions regarding the scheme please contact me at any time.

Local Bus Service Update
Most bus services in Devon will be further restored with effect from Sunday 14 June. This is in response to recent Government announcements and a fresh round of funding direct to bus companies for commercially operated services, plus an anticipated additional grant via local authorites for supported services.
Inevitably, these further changes are at short notice and final timetables are in the process of being posted on-line. The County Council’s website will in due course be including full timetable details as confirmed with each company. Information is currently available at https://www.traveldevon.info/bus/latest-news-service-updates/
Stagecoach are incorporating some changes to their commercially operated services which were part of their service review and public consultation which took place prior to the coronavirus situation. These are mainly within Exeter, plus the Exeter - Okehampton - Bude / Launceston service. https://www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/south-west/covid-19-timetables
Alongside bus services being restored, the temporary pre-0930 free travel concession for National Bus Pass-holders is being withdrawn. This is to help ensure capacity for workers during peak hours.

Stoodleigh Annual Show - 22 August
The Garden Club Show planning team have regretfully come to the conclusion that it will not be possible to hold the Annual Show in the Parish Hall this year. Even if the Hall is open by 22 August, the Garden Club team feel it would not be practicable to implement social distancing rules for the Show and retain the community spirit of the event.
Hopefully things will be back to normal by next year and we will be able to go ahead with the Schedule as published for this year. So.....keep those paintings, store your crafty items, keep practicing (and eating the results of) your cookery skills and enjoy your garden produce at its best!
Please note: We will be weighing the potatoes grown in a bucket ......so don't eat them before 22 August! More details to follow nearer the time.

Stoodleigh Community Help Network
The Stoodleigh community continues to work together to help one another in these extremely difficult times.
Several residents in our community have volunteered to support their neighbours by helping with everyday necessities. This includes shopping, collecting prescriptions, dog walking, care of pets and animals and more. The list and contact details of these amazing volunteers has been circulated within our parish. What a fantastic community we live in!
If you are a Stoodleigh resident who needs some help, or know someone in our parish who might need some support in these exceptional times, please let us know. Email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will do our best to put you in touch with one of our volunteers.
It is with regret that the Parish Council has agreed to close the Stoodleigh Playground until further notice. The Council has taken this decision following the government's instruction concerning social distancing and the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
Stoodleigh Public Rights of Way
We are fortunate in Stoodleigh to be able take advantage of the countryside using our local public footpaths, bridleways and byways. It’s not often there are problems along our public rights of way but if you come across issues you are concerned about, here are some contacts for you:
- obstructions or lack of signage on public rights of way can be reported to Devon County Council online on their problem reporting page or phone 0345 155 1004; or
- encounters of obstructive or abusive behaviour on public rights of way can be logged with Devon County Council’s Public Rights of Way Warden, Stuart Howell, at email@example.com . Details should include dates, location and nature of encounter - or you can contact the police; or
- if you prefer you can contact Stoodleigh Parish Councillor, Sharon Davey, on email - firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 01398 351753 who will report the matter to Devon County Council on your behalf.
Devon County Council has told the Parish Council that the more reports they have of a problem, the easier it is to allocate the appropriate resources.
Winter, spring, summer and autumn – hope you can get out and enjoy our public rights of way!
