Minutes Council Meeting Road Warden July 21 2026

Draft Minutes of the Road Warden Meeting hosted by Stoodleigh Parish Council, at 7.30pm on Tuesday 21 July 2026 at Stoodleigh Village Hall

 

Members of the Parish Council present : Cllr W Knowles Cllr C Payne Cllr J Widdowson Cllr D Wotton Cllr B Wotton

Residents who Volunteered to be involved in the Road Warden Scheme in Stoodleigh Parish were invited to the meeting.

Two volunteer residents attended along with three volunteers from the Parish Council.

The meeting started at 19:45 due to the previous meeting slightly overrunning.

  1. Declarations of Interest - None
  2. The Public – opportunity for the public to speak on agenda items. No questions – deferred to agenda item 5.
  3. An outline of Road Warden Scheme, including the different levels of participation was discussed.
  4. Questions about Road Warden Scheme from Volunteers.

The issue of insurance was raised.  It was agreed that the Parish Council should get a quote for the cost of insurance to cover this activity.  Public Liability is covered by Devon County Council.  Clerk to follow up with Insurance Company.  A place will be needed to store the material.  A number of offers were made to cover this. 

  1. Nominations for role of Road Warden(s)

There was a discussion about nominating Road Wardens and the training required. 

Julian Earl and Cllr Becky Wotton volunteered to be Road Wardens.

 It was agreed that the Clerk would email the Volunteers not present to see if any others would like to volunteer for this role, as it was thought three would be an ideal number. Note – Rob Wotton volunteered after the meeting and before an email was sent out.

Cllr Knowles offered to be a reserve.

It was suggested that the training should be held near the Village Hall as there are some suitable potholes to use for training.

A question was raised about whether a Road Warden would need Business Insurance if they were carrying material in their vehicle.
