Draft Minutes of a Special Meeting to consider the Co-option of a Parish Councillor for Stoodleigh Parish Council, held at 7.00pm on Tuesday 21 July 2026 at Stoodleigh Village Hall

 

Present : Cllr W Knowles Cllr J Mansfield Cllr C Payne Cllr J Widdowson Cllr D Wotton Cllr R Wotton

Two members of the Public were present.

  1. Apologies for absence - None
  2. Declarations of Interest - None
  3. The Public – opportunity for the public to speak on agenda items – No questions asked.

The Chairman thanked the Applicants for putting their names forward for the Vacancy of Parish Councillor.

The Chairman read out the following:-

I move in accordance with Section 1(2) of the Public Bodies (Admission to Meetings) Act, 1960 that the public be excluded for the following item of business on the grounds that publicity would be prejudicial to the public interest by reason of the confidential nature of the business to be transacted.

This was agreed unanimously.

The members of the Public then left the room.

Public and press were excluded for next agenda item

  1. Discussion and vote for Applications to fill Parish Councillor Vacancy by Co-option.

The Clerk confirmed they had carried out relevant checks on applicants. Everything appears satisfactory.

Each Applicant was separately invited to introduce themselves and give their reasons for wishing to become a Parish Councillor and explain what they could bring to the Parish Council.

Following a discussion and vote, Martin Baker was declared the successful applicant and was duly offered the position which they accepted.

  1. Councillor Baker signed the acceptance form and gave an undertaking to complete the Declaration of Interest form.
