*** A Message for you from Allerbridge Chapel and St Matthew’s Church ***

Our country is now in partial lockdown and the doors of the Chapel and Church are locked too, so we want to let you know where you and your family can find Christian words and music, should you wish.

There are lots of programmes both online and on TV and radio you will already know about, such as ‘Thought for the Day’ on radio and ‘Songs of Praise’ on TV. Here are some other ideas:

Church of England https://www.churchofengland.org/  for daily prayers, links to ideas of faith and virtual services.  More options are available day by day, including a series of studies led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and information about taking care of mental wellbeing.

Exeter Cathedral https://www.exeter-cathedral.org.uk/   for keeping in touch locally and Sunday sermons, also a nice tour of the Cathedral.

Crediton Parish Church https://www.creditonparishchurch.org.uk/  for a regular Sunday Service.

If you have visited a chapel or church whilst on holiday, you could check out their website too. You may like to sing along to a favourite hymn sometimes, and these can be found on Youtube, by searching at the top of the page.

A couple of other things ... Did you know that it takes the same time to say The Lord’s Prayer as it does to wash your hands?  Also you may have already seen that some people are lighting a candle in their window during the evening to remind them of Jesus, the Light of the World.

Here is a simple prayer that you may wish to make:  Lord Jesus, please forgive the wrong things I have done, and the good I have not done;   come into my life to be my Saviour and help me make a new start.  Amen

Thank you for taking time to read this.  If there is any help you need from either the Chapel or the Church, please contact John Smith on the SPOC in confidence and he will put you in touch with us.

Mid Devon District Council - Community support across Mid Devon

People and businesses across Mid Devon are responding with amazing energy, and community spirit to the challenges we face. While we must look after our own health and that of our families and friends, among our community there will be those vulnerable and in real need of material and psychological support, particularly during isolation at home.

Community contacts list

The latest list of community support groups across Mid Devon can be found on our Community support across Mid Devon page. For all other parishes, please contact Age UK Mid Devon on 01884 255369 in the first instance.

We'll update this list regularly as more information becomes available. The links provided may re-direct to a third party website. We cannot guarantee the information contained within them, so please exercise your own due-diligence and best judgement when using the help on offer.

How can I get my community group added to this list?

If you're involved in a group and want to add it to the list below, please email jbodleyscott@middevon.gov.uk.

I want to setup a new group. What guidance is there?

Covid Mutual Aid UK  If you're setting up a group, information about good practice, particularly around data protection and safeguarding can be found at Covid Mutual Aid UK

For more advice on setting up a group, speak to Karen Nolan at INVOLVE Voluntary Action in Mid Devon, by emailing office@involve-middevon.org.uk.

Mid Devon District Council

Various Updates - 25 March 2020

Textiles

From tomorrow, Thursday, 26 March, reusable textiles such as clothes, sheets, blankets, curtains, towels, shoes, handbags and belts will no longer be collected as part of your fortnightly kerbside recycling collection service, or any of the clothing banks in Devon until further notice. This is due to the area of this service provided by our contractor (the Salvation Army who processes the textiles collected by all Devon authorities), now being classified as 'non-essential'.

In the meantime, if you have any textiles that are reusable, please keep hold of them until these restrictions can be lifted, at which point we anticipate that charities will be in urgent need of clean and wearable donations.

Property Services

1. Play areas

In line with the government's instruction concerning social distancing and the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we've now closed all Mid Devon District Council operated play areas in Mid Devon.

2. Public toilets

Due to the impracticability of ensuring our public conveniences can continuously meet the required hygiene standards and to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), in partnership with our Town and Parish Council's, we've taken the decision to close all public conveniences within Mid Devon until further notice.
